Muhammad, Head of Public Governance Sub-Division of Rarang Selatan Village, East Lombok District
It all started in the mid-2016 when KOMPAK’s East Lombok District Coordinator invited me to join the Village Information System (SID) discussion, followed by a workshop on the same topic. A week before the event, out of curiosity I started looking for information about SID. Some of the questions I had in mind were answered during the workshop, when the speaker explained about OpenSID being an open-source application that is not only free, but also developed by the community.
I got the rest of my questions answered through the event held by KOMPAK in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). At the time, I was actively looking for literature on SID and how the data is used for the development of the village. I am lucky to be involved as a panel member in OpenSID community, which is tasked with setting priorities in the application development.
I immediately adopted SID for Rarang Selatan Village, where I was placed, starting from completing the population data and profile of the village and on to completing Rarang Selatan’s web page. By 2018, the benefits were already been visible. The menu of the SID we use now is also more comprehensive. With population data as our priority, we are confident to report to the Population and Civil Registration Office (Dispendukcapil) that our data is more up to date than ever. The population data is also synchronised with the poverty data, making it viable as the basis for determining the Village Fund Cash Assistance (BLT-Dana Desa) recipients last year.
If someone asked me, I would say there are at least two things I consider the key factors in our success. First, support from the Head of the Village. In order to get that, explanation on how SID and the data are beneficial to the village development is essential. Secondly, involving all Sub-Division Heads and other staff, so that everyone feels that SID belongs to the residents and government of Rarang Selatan Village, not just me. Because of that, when I proposed a larger budget for SID, they were all in favor of it.
