University Building Village (Universitas Membangun Desa - UMD) - Raise Neglected Assets through Innovative Collaboration

"The active contribution of students in conducting village development is carried out with the discovery of economic potential that is a superior product of the village."

The University Building Program (UMD) approach is a collaborative model developed by exercising the potential of the community service programs from tertiary education institutions – such as community service lectures, field work practices, and similar programs – to contribute significantly to village development.  The UMD aims to mobilise the community service program to better coordinated and focused on supporting local government priorities.


Locations:

Province of Aceh, West Java, East Java and South Sulawesi.


Impact:

  • The UMD University of Jember has developed a Village Information System in 161 villages in Bondowoso district and 30 villages in Probolinggo district.
  • The UMD program in West Aceh district succeeded in creating employment opportunities for 122 women through the use of water hyacinth.
